NCL started in 2010 as Narec Capital, a joint venture with the UK’s National Renewable Energy Centre. Its primary purpose was to commercialise the IP that came through the centre of excellence, on behalf of UK Plc.
NCL’s operating model was developed specifically to address the commercialisation funding gap by:
- Working closely with industrial partners to understand areas of true market demand
- Establishing a robust commercialisation process to identify, validate and accelerate promising technologies to meet the unmet market need
- Leveraging public sector capital alongside private sector capital to help de-risk investments and maximise return potential
After five successful years of operation, NCL expanded its offering to cover the wider technology market on a thematic basis. It also raised its first discretionary funds to benefit from its increasing pipeline of opportunity.
